DART to Music

Blue Planet Live! image July 1-3 The Dallas Symphony Orchestra performs Blue Planet Live! A Natural History of the Oceans. Based on the BBC/Discovery Channel documentary series Blue Planet, "Blue Planet Live!" is a monumental concert event that incorporates cinematography from the series with an original symphonic score. Larger than life footage of coral reefs, frozen seas, the unknown depths of the oceans and more are presented on an enormous three-story screen and matched note-for-note to live orchestration by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Join the DSO for three ground-breaking nights as it presents one of the most innovative orchestral concerts in a rare U.S. appearance. Information: 214-692-0203 or dallassymphony.com.

Plano Community Band performing at Haggard Park imageJuly 3 The Plano Community Band presents a patriotic celebration at their 7 p.m. evening concert in Haggard Park in downtown Plano. Information: planoband.com.

US Flag image July 4 A Star-Spangled Spectacular is the Dallas Wind Symphony's annual red, white and blue salute to the USA. There's toe-tapping marches, patriotic songs and "musical fireworks" in this festive "air-conditioned parade" at 1 p.m. at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St.

Thursday Night LiveThrough July 31 AT&T presents Thursday Night Live at the Dallas Museum of Art. Included in the lineup is Jazz in the Atrium every Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. General admission is free. The lineup includes:
July 3 Glenda Hill
Singer Glenda Hill, mainstay of
the Balcony Club scene, puts
her own style on songs from the jazz era.
July 10 John Adams Quintet
John Adams, accomplished acoustic and electric bassist, performs with some of the top musicians on the Dallas–Fort Worth music scene.
July 17 Roger Boykin Trio
The Roger Boykin Trio will perform music by the legendary composer Cole Porter in celebration of the exhibition Making It New: The Art and Style of Sara and Gerald Murphy.
July 24 Brigette Rideau
Dallas favorite Brigette Rideau performs contemporary jazz.
July 31 Drew Phelps Ensemble
Drew Phelps, bassist and composer, performs a variety of jazz styles.

Image of a Cool Thursdays Concert Through July 31 Cool Thursdays is a cool way to spend summer evenings at the Dallas Arboretum. Bring a blanket and stretch out on the lawn for this year's lineup of great entertainment:
