Activity 1.1 Westward Ho!
Students brainstorm about the origin of their town and then read about the history of the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

Grade 4: Lesson Two: Transportation & the Marketplace

Students brainstorm a web of jobs related to transportation. It seems all jobs are somehow connected to transportation! Invite a panel of professionals to come and speak to the class about their job, what they do and what their professional life is like.

Activity 2.2 How Did That Get Here?
Students learn about imports and exports using items from home and conduct an exciting cyber hunt and discussion about the global market. Students' imaginations come alive when they write a story about "The Day Transportation Stopped!"

Activity 2.3 Who's Selling What?
Is there a correlation between America's love of the automobile and advertising? Would we use transit more if it were advertised more or differently? Let your students be the advertisers and create inspiring ads for DART or other transit choices.
